Small Statue of Hindu Goddess Kali

$19.00

This brass statuette represents Kali, a powerful and complex deity in Hindu mythology. Standing with a ferocious expression, Kali is depicted with six arms, each holding symbolic items: a sword, a severed head, a trident, and a bowl or skull cap catching the blood of the severed head. She wears a skirt made of severed arms and a garland of human heads, embodying the cycle of creation and destruction. Kali is often depicted trampling upon Shiva The Destroyer, representing the subjugation of destructive forces within the cosmos and within the self.

Kali's fierce appearance represents her role as a destroyer of evil and protector of the righteous. She is often shown with her tongue outstretched, which symbolizes her victory over ignorance and the ego. Despite her fearsome image of feminine wrath, Kali is a deeply revered figure, embodying the ultimate reality and motherly compassion. She teaches that life, in all its chaos and beauty, is fleeting and that power and pain are but facets of the same truth.

This little statuette stands about one inch tall and is crafted from solid brass. It was acquired in Kuala Lumpur, home to a large Tamil Hindu community.
